Light + Shade (2005)Mike OldfieldNew Age "Light + Shade" is just another work of Mike Oldfield. This album is performed in New Age style, so it's thoughtful and extensive. "Light + Shade" consists of two discs: the first of them corresponds to "Light" (something kind, bright and beautiful, although it isn't such beautiful as it might be), the second one corresponds to "Shade" (a shadow and intensity, which are done by Mike much better). At that these albums are almost the same. The only difference is that compositions become more energetic when they are closer to the "Shade" side: some compositions appear with vocals, their rhythm changes, everything becomes interesting to hear. The "Light" side is a bit simple-minded and faceless. But as a whole this music isn't bad, it isn't pushing or forcing you to anything. It is melodious enough and vocal is also good. "Light + Shade" is smooth for listening, and it leaves a slightly perceptible trace in the soul. Unambiguously something is missing on this album. Maybe emotionality? |
